Child Vaccination Schedule in Bangalore: Cost, Timing, and Where to Get Vaccinated
OthersBy Stepcare Team01 July 2026

Vaccines are the most cost-effective investment in your child's health. A single dose of the pneumococcal vaccine costs a fraction of what treating bacterial meningitis or pneumonia in a hospitalised child will run. The vaccination schedule exists to protect children at the specific ages when they are most vulnerable to each disease.

For parents in Bangalore, the challenge is knowing which vaccines are available free at government centres, which ones require a private clinic, what bundled packages actually cost, and what happens if a dose is missed. This guide answers all of that and includes Stepcare's complete vaccination package pricing so you can plan ahead.

Why the IAP Schedule Matters More Than the Government Schedule Alone

India's Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) provides several core vaccines free at government health centres. But the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) recommended schedule goes considerably further, adding vaccines that are not yet part of the UIP but are strongly supported by clinical evidence: pneumococcal (PCV), hepatitis A, varicella (chickenpox), meningococcal, HPV, and annual influenza.

The gap between what the government provides free and what the IAP recommends is where most of the parental decision-making happens. Private clinics in Whitefield like Stepcare offer structured packages that bundle these additional vaccines by age group, making it easier and more affordable to follow the complete IAP schedule.

The HPV Vaccine: Why It Matters at 10 to 15 Years

The HPV vaccine is one of the most important additions to the adolescent immunisation schedule because it is the only vaccine that prevents cancer. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causes nearly all cases of cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among Indian women. It also causes cancers of the oropharynx, anus, penis, vagina, and vulva.

The IAP recommends two doses if the first is given before age 15, and three doses if started at 15 or above. Stepcare offers age-appropriate HPV packages from age 10 onwards for both boys and girls, using both Gardasil 4 and Gardasil 9 depending on the clinical recommendation and age group.

Gardasil 9 offers broader protection than Gardasil 4, covering nine HPV strains compared to four. For boys and for comprehensive coverage in both genders, Gardasil 9 is the stronger clinical choice.

What Vaccines Are Free Under the Government Scheme in India?

Under the Universal Immunisation Programme, the following vaccines are available free at government health centres and BBMP clinics in Bangalore:

  • BCG (at birth, tuberculosis protection)
  • OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine, at birth and follow-up doses)
  • Hepatitis B (birth dose and subsequent doses through pentavalent combination)
  • Pentavalent vaccine: DPT, Hepatitis B, Hib combined
  • Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV)
  • Measles and Rubella (MR vaccine)
  • Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV, now added to UIP)
  • Rotavirus vaccine (in select states and areas)
  • Vitamin A supplementation (not a vaccine but part of child health programme)

Vaccines not covered by the UIP but IAP-recommended, including PCV, Hepatitis A, Varicella, Influenza, Meningococcal, Japanese Encephalitis (in non-endemic urban settings), and HPV, are available only at private clinics.

What Happens If a Vaccine Dose Is Missed?

Missing a dose does not mean restarting the entire schedule. Most vaccines can be administered according to an IAP catch-up schedule. Your paediatrician will assess which doses are overdue and plot the most efficient course to get your child protected.

The most important age-sensitive exception is Rotavirus. The first dose of Rotavirus vaccine should ideally be given by 15 weeks of age and should not be initiated after 32 weeks. If your child is approaching these windows, do not delay.

Multiple vaccines can be given at the same clinic visit. The immune system processes several vaccines simultaneously without difficulty, and combination vaccines like Infanrix Hexa are specifically designed to reduce the number of injections required per visit.

When Does Vaccination Demand Peak in Bangalore?

School admission season from April to June creates a sharp surge in private vaccination bookings because many schools in Bangalore require up-to-date vaccination cards as a condition of admission. If your child is approaching school age, book vaccination appointments in January or February to avoid the April rush.

Monsoon season brings increased demand for typhoid and hepatitis A boosters given the rise in waterborne illness risk. Annual influenza vaccination is ideally timed for October or November before the winter respiratory season peaks.
